The Content & Motion Mission (part 2): Make Your Web Site Find Its Target!
This post describes the mechanics of C&M’s mission by way of a great article published by A List Apart a little earlier in the year. (For those not familiar with it, A List Apart is a great source of best practice articles and insight for the web development community).
In terms of a vision, what we do is relatively simple – and top-line commercial:
The point of a web site is to connect with people. The point of what we do in ‘Online PR’ and ‘Content Optimization’ is to facilitate this in its widest possible sense. Put simply, we make web sites FINDABLE.
For this point of clarity, I have to thank the wonderful Aarron Walter. In his words, our work is ‘FINDABILITY’ ….Something that exists at the crossroads of SEO, Online PR, web design and development, Usability, Information Architecture, and Copywriting.
Here’s how he describes it:
Although his message is aimed at the web agency fraternity (it’s a petition to make the role of ‘findability’ more central to the web site development process), I strongly recommend you read it.
….Because, in the brief history of web design, somewhere along the way we managed to sideline the skills and disciplines that are essential to ensure that what we build will ultimately find a home in the browsers of our intended audiences.
As such, Content and Motion exists to put these things back on the map and to safeguard the direction of your online marketing strategy. We need this stuff now more than ever. We’re helping our clients to integrate the best of Online PR, SEO and content development so that their entire online marketing efforts meet their commercial goals. Because, to borrow from Aarron again…
Findable Content = Increased Profits.
Or, in other words, if you don’t use the necessary Online PR and Content Optimization noodles to engage with your audience in every single piece of online marketing that you do, then frankly you’re wasting some or all of your money ….And we’d really, really like to prevent this!

Say Hello to Paul, Our Very Affable New Head of Accounts
As our original ad for the role stated, Paul’s job is to be more Mad Men than IM, Twitter, Foursquare and the rest. His job is to talk to all of our clients – preferably at a distance of three paces, and to get the Martinis in whenever they’re needed. Oh, and to always have a glowing report to hand.
Why do 95.769% of Social Media Projects Fail? PLANNING!
In C&M’s experience, failure to deliver value on Social Media projects is 95.769% down to the lack of a plan. Why? Because 95.6579% of the time Social Media is seen as free
