Hey Kristina - I agree *totally*... The flow here is designed for those who are obsessing on the channels. As our name suggests, we're more about content than Social Meeja. Want a job? :)

Thanks so much for this great post. I really appreciate your perspective that social media is a channel, not a strategy in and of itself. YESSS.

However, I would like to take issue with the order in which you're proposing people tackle their plan: "If social media is for you, then content is your next thought." Eek!

Starting with "we want social media!" and *then* moving to "okay, what content do we have?" is a recipe for disaster. Without considering your business objectives and user goals... without identifying your key messages and when/where/how to deliver them so your target audiences will respond... without creating a plan about how that content will be created, maintained, and cared for long-term... you are setting yourself up for failure.

Your web content strategy needs to be defined FIRST. Only then can a company determine if and how online PR, social media, and focused SEO efforts will support its long-term success.

Content strategy first. Channels second. My book Content Strategy for the Web tells all. :)

Maybe my employer makes be biased but I'd like to see an addition to the map - it needs another section devoted to protection, monitoring and measurement of those same assets.
